Poseidon

This piece is inspired by the Canning Gem, a famous piece of jewelry that is in the Victoria and Albert Museum. It started with a baroque pearl, which resembled a part of a man’s chest and torso. The head, arms, upper body, back and stomach were carved in wax to fit the pearl and cast in sterling silver. The “tail” is a fossilized ammonite. The crown, top and bottom of the trident are 16k gold, and the crown and top of the trident are set with small rubies, emeralds, sapphires, topazes and a tanzanite. Poseidon sits in a small plexiglass bowl, which is held by one of the octopus’s tentacles. The octopus was carved in wax and then cast in bronze. Dimensions: 5”H x 7”W x 5”D
