This piece began as a small piece of ivory colored chalcedony. The shape of the face and neck was dictated by what was left of the stone after the major imperfections were ground and cut away. The background is Australian jade, and the hair, robe and shirt are cast fine silver. The hair and robe are enameled, as is the etched copper frame. The halo is 23.5 K gold and there are garnets set in copper-plated sterling silver on the frame.
